IPL 2025: Rajasthan Royals (RR) might have to take the field without their captain Sanju Samson in the upcoming IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
This could be a significant setback for the team, as Samson’s absence would leave a crucial gap in the batting lineup and leadership.
During the previous match against Delhi Capitals, Samson complained of a side strain while batting, forcing him to retire hurt. In that game, Samson had scored 31 runs off 19 balls but felt discomfort in his side while playing a cut shot off leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam.
Sanjay Samson’s Injury Update
Rajasthan Royals’ head coach, Rahul Dravid, provided an update on Samson’s condition ahead of their crucial match against Lucknow. Speaking at a press conference, Dravid mentioned that Samson was feeling pain in his abdomen area. He confirmed that a scan had been conducted, and they were awaiting the report. Dravid stated, “We will make decisions based on the scan results once we know the severity of the injury.”
A Season Marred by Injuries for Sanju Samson
Samson has struggled with injuries throughout this IPL season. In the first few matches, he was sidelined as an impact player due to an injury to his thumb, which kept him from wicketkeeping duties. During this period, all-rounder Riyan Parag took over as the captain.
Samson’s Return to Captaincy After Injury
After recovering from his thumb injury, Samson made his return to captaincy in Rajasthan Royals’ match against Punjab Kings on April 5. Rajasthan won the match by 50 runs. Despite this win, Rajasthan Royals have faced numerous challenges this season. Out of the seven matches they have played, they have only won two, leaving them at the eighth position on the points table.
Impact of Samson’s Absence on Rajasthan Royals
With Rajasthan Royals already struggling this season, the absence of their captain and key batsman, Sanju Samson, could make things even more difficult for the team. They will be hoping for a quick recovery, but if Samson is unable to play against Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, it will certainly put more pressure on the remaining players.
