The Ministry of Railways announced a special “Round Trip Package” on Saturday, aimed at managing the heavy rush at railway stations and in trains during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals. Under this initiative, passengers opting for a round trip will receive a 20 percent discount on the base fare.
The scheme will be launched on a pilot or experimental basis and will be applicable only to passengers who book both their onward and return journeys within a specified timeframe.

Bookings under the scheme will open on August 14 for onward journeys scheduled between October 13 and 26. The return journey must be booked using the “connecting journey” feature for travel dates between November 17 and December 1, 2025. Notably, the usual 60-day limit on advance reservations will not apply to return tickets booked under this offer.
However, the scheme will not be available on premium trains such as Vande Bharat, Rajdhani Express, Tejas, Duronto, and Shatabdi. Additionally, tickets booked under this scheme will be non-refundable in case of cancellation.
“The scheme shall be allowed for all classes and in all trains including special trains (trains on demand) except trains having flexi fare. Both onward and return journey tickets must be booked using the same mode either Internet (online) booking, or counter booking at reservation offices,” said the Ministry in a statement.
