Rahul Gandhi To Kick-Off ‘Matdata Adhikar Yatra’ Against EC’s Bihar SIR On August 17

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, will start his ‘Matdata Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar from August 17. The initiative is aimed at highlighting the alleged discrepancies in Bihar SIR. It will start from Sasaram.

Earlier, Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru and state Congress president Rajesh Ram held a meeting with senior Congress leaders, workers, and front organization presidents, regarding the preparations of the yatra.

After the meeting, he told the media that a detailed description of the Yatra will be given in the coming time. This Yatra will be of a fortnight.

Allavaru said that this visit of Rahul Gandhi is being undertaken to protect justice, equality, democracy and to strengthen public communication.

“Rahul Gandhi will kick-off the yatra in Rohtas district on August 17. Our national president Mallikarjun Kharge, will also be present on the occasion. All leaders of the INDIA bloc in the state, including Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, will be invited to the function,” he said.

The yatra comes at a time when the opposition, including Congress and RJD, are at loggerheads with the Election Commission over the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise.

The Congress has accused the poll body of removing names from the electoral rolls at the behest of the BJP to provide an advantage to the latter in the upcoming elections.

The draft roll was published the the poll body on August 1 and a time of one month till September 1 was given to voters and political parties to get the eligible voters’ names added to the list, if it was left out. Over 65 lakh names have been removed in the first draft of the electoral rolls by the poll body.
