Rahul Gandhi Sits On Dharna At Delhi Police Station, Demands FIR Over Student’s Pellet Injuries

Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited the Parliament Street Police Station with 19-year-old Sahil Lochab, who claims he suffered pellet injuries during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on July 20.

Gandhi accompanied Sahil to seek registration of an FIR, after the student alleged that Delhi Police had not acted on his complaint. The Congress leader also sought details from the police about the action taken in the case.

Rahul Gandhi Stages Dharna Outside Police Station

Rahul Gandhi and Sahil had visited the Connaught Place Police Station before approaching the DCP office situated on Parliament Street.

As per the Congress, Sahil had filed a written complaint with the police and had not got any I/O number. It had said that he approached the police department again via emails and calls on August 17 but did not get any response.

Later, Rahul Gandhi sat on a dharna at the police station following the allegation by the Congress that FIR has not been registered yet.

Congress tweeted that “there is ‘no FIR’ and ‘no justice'”, and appealed to the police department to register the FIR and assign an investigating officer.

What Does Sahil Lochab Allege?

It is reported that Sahil has been complaining about suffering pellet injury during the march organized by the CJP to go to the Parliament on July 20. The demonstration was associated with the demands of students regarding the examinations.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had held Sahil and showed him with his injury during a press conference on July 24. It has been said that he had blamed the Delhi Police for firing the protesters with pellets and also facing lathi-charge.

The government and police have denied the charge of pellet guns.

Sahil has also reportedly complained about no receipt of Medico Legal Case (MLC).

Rahul Gandhi Had Written To Amit Shah

Following the allegations, Rahul Gandhi wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking accountability over what he described as an attack on protesters.

The Congress has continued to demand an investigation into the alleged use of pellet guns during the July 20 protest. The party has also accused the Delhi Police of failing to act on Sahil’s complaint.

The allegations made by the Congress and Sahil remain contested, with the police and government rejecting the claim regarding pellet-gun use. The FIR issue and the circumstances surrounding Sahil’s injuries are now at the centre of the political dispute.
