Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day visit to Rae Bareli from January 20. He will address ‘MNREGA Chaupal’ against scrapping of MNREGA, inaugurate the T20 tournament and meet party leaders.

Rae Bareli: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will go on a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. There he will address a public meeting against the scrapping of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) and meet senior party leaders. Today Gandhi will go from Lucknow to Rae Bareli by road and will spend the night at Bhumau Guest House. On the first day of his two-day programme, i.e. on January 20, Rahul Gandhi will hold a ‘MNREGA Chaupal’ (community meeting) in Rohania, Unchahar.

Rahul Gandhi will also inaugurate the Premier League T20 cricket tournament organized by the Youth Sports Academy Rae Bareli at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in IIT Colony and also inaugurate the works of MPLADS (Parliamentarian Local Area Development Scheme). He will also visit the residence of the Municipal Corporation Chairman. After this, the Congress MP is scheduled to have a meeting with senior party leaders at his guest house on the next day. The Congress has opposed the newly enacted Vikas Bharat- Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025, which will replace the flagship rural employment scheme.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Rai said on Sunday that there are plans to organize a big program to protest against the new law. Congress will hold 30 mahapanchayats in Uttar Pradesh. Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge can also participate in some of these Mahapanchayats. Earlier this month, the party had announced a three-phase movement across the country named “Save MNREGA” after the Centre’s new VB-G RAMG Act.

According to the party, the second phase of the campaign, which began on January 12, will continue till January 30. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said, “Panchayat-level chaupalas will be held in all gram panchayats, and a letter from the Congress president will be delivered. There are also plans to hold street meetings and distribute leaflets at the assembly level. On January 30, Martyrs’ Day, the party will hold peaceful dharnas at ward levels with MNREGA workers. The third phase will begin with district-level MNREGA save dharnas at DC and DM offices on January 31 and It will continue till February 6. This will be followed by a state-level siege of assembly buildings from February 7 to February 15 and four zonal AICC rallies across the country between February 16 and February 25.
