Rafael Nadal and his wife welcome second child, name him Miquel

New Delhi: Tennis legend Rafael Nadal and his wife Mery Perello welcomed their second child on August 7. The news was revealed couple of days later after the Nadal family was spotted leaving the hospital with the newborn, a baby boy named Miquel. Nadal called it quits from the world of tennis last year in November.

Nadal and Mery’s bonding started two decades ago during their teenage and over the time, their friendship turned into love and then marriage eventually. The couple got married at Sa Fortalesa, a 17thg century castle, in Mallorca, Spain back in 2019 and welcomed their firsr child, Rafa Junior, somewhere in October 2022. This was the time when Nadal’s final full season on the Tour was ongoing and the moment of happiness doubled his joy.

Son named after Mery’s father

With the 22-time Grand Slam winner already retired from tennis, his entire focus would be on the newborn and the entire family which he missed doing in the past few years. It is being learnt that his wife’s recovery was quite swift and just two days time, she went back to home. In what doubled the emotion, the couple named their son after Mery’s father, who passed away in 2023.

Meanwhile, Nadal called it quits to the world of tennis in November last year at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. He bid adieu to the sport as the greatest player overall and especially a master on the clay court which earned him the nickname ‘King of Clay’.

Out of the total 22 Grand Slam titles, he has won the French Open a record 14 times and has also earned 36 Masters 1000 titles. Apart from this, Nadal also holds the record for most consecutive weeks in the ATP top 10 (912 weeks) and most consecutive years winning at least one ATP title (19 years).
