Mumbai: Actress Radhika Sarathkumar talked about a time when she was insecure about her complexion. Recollecting an acting sequence opposite Kamal Haasan, she talked about that phase in her life.
Speaking to Galatta Plus, Radhika said she was acting opposite Kamal Haasan when she became uncomfortable. The film scene required her to hug the actor from behind. Director K Vishwanath quickly sensed the uneasiness and decided to interrupt. “He asked, ‘You all don’t like each other?’” recalled Radhika. The question confused Radhika and Haasan. Radhika confirmed there were no issues between them. However, the director was not convinced.
He picked up a bottle of perfume and sprayed it on Haasan. The director’s action puzzled everyone on the set.
Later, Radhika explained to Haasan the real reason behind her uneasiness. She told him that she was insecure about her complexion.

“I told Kamal Haasan that you are too fair, and my hands are two shades darker than my face. When I hugged him, I felt it looked very bad,” said the actress. The actress recalled how Haasan brushed off her concern and told her that it didn’t even matter. Despite years going by, Radhika stated that Haasan still talks about it.
“Even today, when he sees me, he’ll say, ‘Oh, she is so fixated on the complexion,’” said the actress.
Reflecting on the early days, she stated that she slowly came out of that phase and was able to embrace her skintone.
However, despite the insecurities, Radhika spoke of how actresses at the time believed more in their talent and relied less on their physical appearances. They were very confident in their craft. “We used to feel – yes, they may look different, but they can’t do what we are doing,” said the actress.
