Quick On Sanctions… But Why Reward Terror Sponsors? PM Modi Calls Out West’s Double Standards At G7 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing world leaders at the G7 Summit, made a pointed reference to the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead and called for global action against terrorism.

In a clear snub to Pakistan and its backers, PM Modi warned against double standards on terrorism and said, “countries that openly support terrorism are rewarded.”

Prime Minister Modi urged leaders to galvanise global action against terrorism and underscored the need for strict action against those who “promote and support” it. At the G7 Summit in Canada, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked leaders from across the globe for condemning the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack and said that it was “not only an attack on Pahalgam, but also on soul, identity and dignity of every Indian.” “It was an attack on entire humanity,” the Indian Prime Minister asserted.

“PM reiterated India’s stand against terrorism & thanked the leaders for condemning the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack. He urged them to galvanise global action against terrorism & underlined the need to take strict action against those who promote & support terrorism,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in an X post.

Hitting out at Islamabad and its backers, PM Modi said, “For global peace and prosperity, our thought and policy must be clear – if any country supports terrorism, it will have to pay the price for it.”

“On one hand, we are quick to impose all kinds of sanctions based on our own preferences. On the other hand, countries that openly support terrorism are rewarded,” he added.

The April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 people. In response to it, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This is the first foreign visit of Prime Minister Modi after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

PM Modi attended the G7 Summit in Canada’s Kananaskis on the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This was the 6th consecutive participation of India in the G7 Summit. The G7 comprises the US, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada and Japan.
