Puri Jagannadh and Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming film “Slumdog,” also known as “Slumdog: 33 Temple Road,” appears to be facing a delay due to its OTT deal.
The film’s teaser was unveiled two months ago, while a glimpse introducing Tabu’s character was released earlier this month. However, there is still no clarity on its theatrical release date.
Sources informed Telugucinema.com that “Slumdog” is currently stuck at the OTT deal stage. Reportedly, streaming platforms are not offering the price that producers Puri Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur are seeking. Some OTT companies have reportedly not even shown interest in entering negotiations.
Vijay Sethupathi is a major name in South Indian cinema and recently delivered a strong success with “Maharaja.” However, sources say Puri Jagannadh’s recent track record, with several of his films failing at the box office and not making a major impact on OTT platforms, has affected the demand for “Slumdog” among streaming players.
The makers are unlikely to announce the theatrical release date until the OTT deal is finalized.
“Slumdog: 33 Temple Road” features Vijay Sethupathi as a beggar, with Samyuktha playing the female lead. Tabu plays Gauri Hegde, an Income Tax officer. The film has music by Harshavardhan Rameshwar.
