Floods in Punjab are continuously increasing. Relief and rescue operations are going on across the state, but the death toll has now increased to 55. The administration is making special arrangements to prevent diseases so that the situation does not deteriorate in the affected areas.

Latest deaths in Fazilka and Mansa

Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Thursday informed that one person has died in Fazilka and Mansa district in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of people who lost their lives due to floods has increased to 55 so far. There are currently 111 relief camps going on in the state, out of which about 4,585 people are staying. So far 23,337 people have been transported to safe places, while 40 people have been rescued in just the last 24 hours.

Crops collapsed in 18 districts, millions affected

According to officials, 2,214 villages in the state have been hit by floods, affecting 3,88,508 people. In 18 districts, standing crops on about 1,92,380 hectares of land have been completely ruined. Due to this, farmers are facing heavy losses.

Flood water decreased, risk of diseases increased

After the flood water has reduced, the risk of malaria and other diseases has increased. Eight NDRFs, two SDRFs, 14 army columns and two teams of Engineer Task Force are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the state. Teams of the Health and Veterinary Department are constantly camping in the affected areas.

Fogging and prevention of medical camp

To prevent diseases, fogging machines are being installed in the affected villages and regular medical camps are being set up. At the same time, veterinary teams are doing animal care and vaccination work.

Ministers visited, help victims

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains reviewed the loss in Rupnagar and said that the assessment of losses in 50% of the affected areas has been completed. Health Minister Balveer Singh visited Gurdaspur and gave financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the victim families. Cabinet Minister Baljit Kaur also met Malot’s affected families and provided financial assistance and assured that the government was standing with them.
