A video of municipal corporation employees in Pune watering roadside plants during heavy downpours is going viral on social media, drawing criticism.
People were astonished to see them watering the plants in the rain.
The video clip shows several employees walking with a water tanker and spraying water from hosepipes on plants along the divider. Despite the continuing rain, the employees systematically watered the already drenched greenery.
The video quickly went viral on social media, with users questioning why the work wasn’t stopped considering the weather conditions.
The clip surfaced at a time when the monsoon is in full swing in Maharashtra. The weather department has issued several rain warnings for many parts of the state. Heavy to very heavy rainfall was reported in Pune and the surrounding ghat areas.
Mockery On Social Media
The video sparked widespread mockery and criticism from users. Many questioned whether the work was being carried out without regard for the weather. Users argued that watering plants during heavy rain showed a complete lack of common sense and demanded greater accountability in planning such maintenance tasks.
An X user Deepesh Patel (@Deepeshpatel87) wrote, “I’ve never seen such an honest man in my life. He’s working in the peak rainy season..This is a Pune case-he’s watering the plants with such dedication in the rain as he probably never did in the summer season.”
“This is how taxpayers’ money is being wasted under the BJP government. On one hand, Pune is witnessing heavy rainfall, while on the other, plants on the road divider are still being watered. When nature itself is providing the water, what is the point of wasting taxpayers’ money like this?,” another X user, Karbari Ansari

“Meanwhile in Pune. Paud Road Metro Station is making sure the plants don’t get dehydrated during the rain,” Kaptan Hindustan (@KaptanHindustan) wrote on X.
