New Delhi: In a chilling incident, a pack of stray dogs attacked and killed a woman in Chakan, Pune district. The CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced.
The deceased woman has been identified as Shobha Vijay Waghmare. Shobha originally hailed from Deglur in Nanded district and was currently living in the Chakan area. The 32-year-old woman was reportedly coming back from work. She had come to Chakan two months ago for work.

On Monday (March 16), around 2:00 am, while she was walking on the service road under the flyover near Ambattan Chowk, a pack of about six stray dogs pounced on her. The horrific incident was captured on the CCTV. The footage, that has emerged, shows the woman trying to defend herself by picking up a stone. However, her efforts prove futile against the pack of dogs.
She died due to excessive bleeding
The woman’s clothes were torn. She suffered deep wounds on her hands, legs, face and neck. Shobha died on the spot within about fifteen minutes due to excessive bleeding.
Panic gripped the area when locals found the woman’s half-naked body in the morning. They suspected it to be a case of sexual assault and murder. However, after scanning the CCTV footage, police drew the conclusion that the woman was attacked and killed by stray dogs. They found the woman’s purse near her body.
Police said her identity was established through her Aadhaar card found in her purse. Her relatives in Nashik have been informed about the incident. The victim’s nephew, Prajjwal Kamble from Nashik, reportedly said that Shobha had separated from her husband and she stayed in Deglur with her 13-year-old son who was physically challenged.
With the recent ghastly incident, the growing menace of stray dogs in Chakan area has once come into focus. It has created fear among residents. They have called for immediate action from the administration to address the problem of strays.
