Apolice sub-inspector deployed in the security detail of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has died by suicide at his residence in Gandhinagar.

PSI Tanvir Singh Zala was found dead at his residence in Sector 27 Police Lines. According to preliminary information, he allegedly shot himself with his service revolver.

The sound of a gunshot alerted people and police personnel nearby, who rushed to the spot. Senior police officials, including the Gandhinagar Superintendent of Police (SP), also reached the scene.

Zala’s body was subsequently taken to a civil hospital for a post-mortem examination. The police have also sought assistance from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to collect and examine technical evidence from the scene.

Family And Marital Dispute Cited As Possible Reason

DySP DT Gohil said the police had examined all aspects of the incident. According to him, a family dispute and issues related to Zala’s married life had emerged as possible reasons behind the incident.

According to preliminary information, Zala is survived by two young children, aged five and six. The police investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and examine the available evidence.

Back in September this year, a 28-year-old woman constable, Jhanvi Dabhi, died by suicide at her residence in Gandhinagar. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan on September 16.

Dabhi, who lived in Sector 3D, was posted at the Shahibaug Police Headquarters in Ahmedabad. She had returned home after completing her night shift on September 14.

When she did not leave her room late at night, her family members knocked on the door. After receiving no response, they entered and found her hanging from the ceiling fan using a dupatta.

Police brought her body down, conducted an inquest and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigations revealed that Dabhi was previously divorced. The Sector 7 police registered an accidental death case and began questioning her family members, friends and colleagues as part of the investigation.
