Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a historic second successive Champions League title after beating Arsenal in a thriller. There was little to choose between the two teams as they played out a 1-1 draw after extra time in Budapest.
The game went to a penalty shootout, where PSG edged out Arsenal 4-3. Arsenal showed great fight to take the game deep, but they suffered yet another heartbreak as Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães missed their shots. Arsenal made a perfect start to the final as Kai Havertz gave the team a lead in the sixth minute, silencing the PSG crowd.
gained control as the game progressed, but Arsenal kept the team at bay with strong defence. But in the second half, Ousmane Dembele hit an equaliser to send PSG fans into a frenzy. Both teams had their moments in the extra time, but failed to break the deadlock as the game headed to penalties.
The win helped PSG achieve a historic feat. They became only the second team after Real Madrid to win back-to-back Champions League titles.
Clashes Erupt After PSG Win
Meanwhile, Paris police arrested more than 400 people as PSG fans celebrated their Champions League win. Paris was already on high alert, with 8,000 police officers deployed across the city due to previous instances of unrest after PSG win. Notably, two people died, and about 200 were injured following PSG’s Champions League win in 2025. The Police said six vehicles, two businesses and a bus shelter were damaged during the recent unrest.
Luis Enrique Lauds PSG
The credit for PSG’s success should also go to coach Luis Enrique, who has transformed the squad into a lethal unified team. Following the win, Luis said that the club deserved to win the title given how they played throughout the season.
“It’s stronger than last year because we knew before the match just how difficult it would be to play against Arsenal,” said Enrique, whose side had thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 a year ago to claim Europe’s elite trophy for the first time.
“As a club and a city, it’s incredible to win, and I think we deserved it over the course of the season. The final was a real battle,” added the Spanish coach.
The PSG team are set to take part in a victory parade on Sunday afternoon, which includes touring the Champ de Mars next to the Eiffel Tower, followed by a reception held by French President Emmanuel Macron.
