As Cockroach Janata Party’s agitators gathered at Jantar Mantar for Parliament March on Monday, police officials lathi charged them.
This comes after the cops issued an advisory saying that no permission has been sought or granted for any proposed march to Parliament by the CJP, clarifying that strict action will be taken against anyone violating orders. Amid the chaos, cops denied media reports claiming that protesters were subjected to violence or detained at Jantar Mantar, saying the demonstration at the site was being handled professionally.
As a precautionary measure, several metro stations in Central Delhi-including Rajiv Chowk, Seva Teerth, Udyog Bhawan and Central Secretariat-have been closed. Traffic on various routes in the New Delhi area has also been diverted.
Sharing a post on X, the police said, “Protest marches, processions, demonstrations and assemblies of five or more persons are strictly prohibited, except at the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar, with prior permission.”
“Delhi Police appeals to all citizens to respect the law, refrain from participating in any unauthorised gathering or march, and cooperate in maintaining public peace, safety and security,” the post read.
Amid the chaos, Delhi police’s official handle shared a post saying, “Some segments from media have mentioned sporadic use of violence/detentions at Jantar Mantar by Delhi Police. It is informed that no such incident has taken place and protest is being handled professionally. All are requested not to fall pray to any rumour/ misgivings, and, to assist Delhi Police in maintaining peace and public order at and around the site.”
CJP Protest
The protest comes days after the youth-led party founded by Abhijeet Dipke has been demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradesh over the alleged irregularities linked to the NEET UG 2026 paper leak. Scientist Activist Sonam Wangchuk have been on a hunger strike for over 20 days and was shifted to the Safdarjung hospital by the New Delhi police on Sunday.
In a handwritten letter shared from what he referred to as his “illegal detention” at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, Wangchuk stated his first condition is if the government takes accountability of the alleged “failures” in the education system – especially the recent NEET question paper leaks. His second condition is if political leaders assure him that the paper leak issue would be raised in the Parliament.
Wangchuk’s third demand is that key political leaders must visit him at the hospital and give assurance of the other two conditions – if his health and other factors do not allow him to be a part of the Parliament march today.
HC Agrees To Hear Wangchuk’s Wife’s Plea
Delhi High Court Division Bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia has agreed to hear today at 2:30 PM.
The appeal filed by Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Dr Gitanjali Angmo, challenging the Single Judge’s refusal to shift him from Safdarjung Hospital to a private hospital of his choice.
Meanwhile, Dr Akshay Kumar, Additional Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at AIIMS, Delhi, said, “He (Sonam) is currently in a stable condition, and his parameters are within the normal range-some are towards the lower end, but still within normal limits.
We are monitoring him closely and continuously. Continued monitoring is necessary because he has been fasting for a long time, which carries a risk of complications,” ANI reported
