James Ortiz is the puppeteer and voice behind Rocky, the alien Ryland encounters during his mission. The sci-fi is produced by Amy Pascal, Gosling, Lord, Miller, Weir, Rachel O’Connor, and Aditya Sood. The film’s studio, Amazon MGM Studios is already mounting a big awards campaign for the film after its tremendous success. It received rave reviews from critics and audiences and grossed around $683.5 million worldwide. So far it is the fourth highest-grossing film of 2026.
When Project Hail Mary pushed its release date to avoid Dhurandhar clash
In India, the sci-fi feature was delayed by a week so it would clash with Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge. When Lord and Miller were asked about Project Hail Mary being pushed back, they were happy to accommodate the Bollywood film. They told Variety India, “We’ve got a sequel to a very popular Bollywood film [Dhurandhar 2] coming out on that date. I heard about it. And I am happy.” They added that “a rising tide lifts all boats,” meaning that film industries should support one another around the world.
