Chandigarh: Professor husband has been arrested 4 years after the murder of his wife. Punjab University Professor B.B. Goyal was arrested by Chandigarh Police on Monday. The police suspected from the beginning that the professor was the murderer, but no evidence was found. The arrest came after several forensic and psychological investigations including brain electrical oscillation signature profiling.
Seema Goyal (60) was found dead on 4 November 2021, the day of Diwali. His body was buried in B.B. Was found at Goyal’s university residence. His hands and legs were tied with cloth. The postmortem confirmed that he died of suffocation. There were no signs of anyone entering the house or any looting. This is one of the most mysterious cases investigated by Chandigarh Police. No fingerprints found. Even in DNA testing, no clue was found. No weapon was also recovered. No one was seen coming or going from outside in CCTV. Seema Goyal’s mobile phone has also not been found yet.
B.B. Goyal had told the police that he and his wife slept in separate rooms on the night of the murder. The professor also said that the next morning the main door was found locked from outside. He stated that the wife was found unconscious inside the room. The police did not completely believe his statement. Taking the body to the government hospital and not informing the police also deepened the suspicion.
Daughter’s polygraph test brought a twist
The couple’s only daughter was not there on the day of the incident. A polygraph test of the daughter revealed that there had been a heated argument between the parents the day before the murder. Seema’s brother Deep had also given a statement that there used to be fights between husband and wife. He told the police that he was B.B. There is suspicion on Goyal.
Unhappy with the slow pace of investigation, he approached the Punjab-Haryana High Court. The court directed the police to speed up the investigation. When the forensic investigation did not find anything significant, the police decided to conduct a psychological investigation. The police resorted to brain-based tests including polygraph test of Goyal and his daughter and brain mapping test of Goyal. Police say that in brain mapping, Goyal’s brain responded by recognizing information related to the crime. Goyal continued working in the university till his arrest. Panjab University authorities have confirmed that he will be suspended within 48 hours and his services will be terminated if found guilty. Police said the professor would be interrogated in detail to find out the reason for the murder.
