Vande Mataram Debate PM Modi Speech: A 10-hour discussion on Vande Mataram has started in the Lok Sabha on Monday. This discussion is taking place on the occasion of completion of 150 years of this song. Prime Minister Modi said in his speech that ‘Vande Mataram was not just a mantra for the fight for political freedom.
This was a mantra of inspiration for independence for Indians and a resolve to liberate the motherland. During this, PM Modi attacked the Congress and said that when it was 100 years of the idea of India, civil rights were strangled during the Emergency.
Prime Minister Modi said, ‘When Vande Mataram completed 100 years, the country was in the chains of Emergency. The Constitution of India was strangled. In a historical time, people who lived and died for patriotism were locked behind bars. The Emergency was a dark period.
Vande Mataram Debate: PM remembered Bankim Chandra
Remembering Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that today Vande Mataram is running in the veins of every Indian as a song of patriotism. He said, ‘The country should become self-reliant. Vande Mataram is a big opportunity to reiterate this resolve to create a developed India in 2047. This journey of Vande Mataram was started by Bankim Chandra ji in 1875. We should not forget that the song was written at a time when the British Sultanate was in panic after the war of independence in 1857. At that time, a conspiracy was going on to take the British national song – ‘God Save the Queen’ to every home. At such a time, this song was written to spread Indianness and patriotism to the people.
PM Modi mentioned Lord Shri Ram
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during the Vande Mataram discussion that it is said in our country since the Vedic period that Mata Bhoomi Putro Aham Prithivya means this land (Earth) is my mother and I am the son of the Earth. PM further connecting this verse with the tradition of Praghu Shri Ram, said, ‘This is the thought which Lord Shri Ram had also said while leaving the glory of Lanka that Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi. Vande Mataram is the modern incarnation of this great cultural tradition.
He further said that when Bankim da composed Vande Mataram, it became the voice of the freedom movement. East to west, north to south. Vande Mataram became the voice of every Indian.
‘Vande Mataram filled patriotism among people of all ages’
Prime Minister Modi said, ‘Even the children of our country were not behind in the fight for freedom. At an early age, he was put in jail and whipped. Children and elders continuously took out Prabhat Pheri for Vande Mataram. The British were in trouble. Children in those days used to say – O mother, even if life goes by while doing your work in the world and saying Vande Mataram, that life is also blessed. This song was the voice of courage of those children. The voice emanating from the streets of Bengal had become the voice of the country.
Veer Savarkar sang the song Vande Mataram at India House in London. This song used to echo there again and again. Newspapers were published in the name of Vande Mataram. Bhikaji Cama published a newspaper in Paris and named it Vande Mataram. Vande Mataram also showed India the path to self-reliance. This was the national anthem of Indians being self-reliant.
