On 2 October, President Murmu and PM Modi paid tribute to Gandhiji at Rajghat and Shastriji at Vijay Ghat. The PM recalled his ideals for ‘developed India’. This day of Gandhi’s 156th birth anniversary is also International Non -Violence Day.
New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday paid tribute to Rajghat on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat on the birth anniversary.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by offering flowers at Rajghat. The Prime Minister paid tribute to Gandhiji in a post on X, in which he remembered the values of his courage, service and compassion. Modi said that the country will continue to walk on the path of Mahatma in his attempt to create a ‘developed India’.
The Prime Minister wrote, “Gandhi Jayanti is a day to pay homage to Pyare Bapu’s extraordinary life, whose ideals changed the direction of human history. He showed how courage and simplicity could become a source of major changes. They believed in the strength of service and compassion to empower people. We will continue to walk their way to create a developed India.”
This year is the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who is remembered as the Father of the Nation for his important role in the freedom struggle of India. October 2 is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti in India, while worldwide it is celebrated as International Non -Violence Day. It began after a 2007 United Nations resolution, which was supported by more than 140 countries. In the United Nations, this day is celebrated with the statements of the General Secretary and such programs that associate Gandhi’s philosophy with today’s truths. In recent years, these messages have focused on struggles around the world and reminded the countries that Gandhi’s faith in truth and non -violence is “more powerful than any weapon.”
In India, tributes are paid to Rajghat on this day, cultural and educational programs are held, and public campaigns that describe Gandhi’s ideals are carried out.
Born on 2 October 1869, Mahatma Gandhi was a prominent leader of the Indian freedom struggle. Inspired by the ideas of Satyagraha and non -violence, Gandhi led the 1930 Dandi March, during which thousands of people traveled to the sea to break the salt law, and led the Quit India Movement in 1942, which was an opposition against British rule.
