Lucknow. Visibility reduces due to fog and bad weather during winter season in the state, especially at night. This increases the risk of road accidents. Keeping this in mind, Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has taken an important step to strengthen road safety.
Retro reflective tape mandatory on all commercial vehicles
UP Transport Department has issued instructions that it will be mandatory to install retro reflective tape on all commercial vehicles in the state during winter season. With the help of retro reflective tape, vehicles will be easily visible from a distance even in darkness, fog or bad weather, which will reduce the chances of accidents.
Instructions implemented under Central Motor Vehicle Rules
This instruction has been implemented under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The department has instructed all regional transport officers (RTO/ARTO) to ensure that the rules for installing retro reflective tape are followed as per the standards.
Special focus on trailer-trolleys and heavy vehicles
Special monitoring is being done to ensure compliance with this rule especially on the trailer-trolleys and heavy vehicles running at sugarcane mills, market committees and other commercial sites. Enforcement action is also being taken by the Transport Department along with awareness campaign and investigation campaign across the state.
Heavy vehicles will be clearly identified even in fog
According to officials, installation of retro reflective tape makes identification of heavy vehicles easier even in foggy conditions. Due to this, vehicles coming from behind get timely signal and the possibility of collision is reduced.
Safety of both drivers and pedestrians will be ensured
Transport Department officials say that retro reflective tape will not only increase the safety of drivers, but will also protect the lives of other passengers and pedestrians on the road.
Appeal to vehicle owners and transport companies
The Transport Department has appealed to all commercial vehicle owners and transport companies to install retro reflective tape on their vehicles as per the standard. This will help in minimizing road accidents during winter season and strengthen road safety.
