Premanand Maharaj and Gitanjali Babbar
Premanand Maharaj Teachings: Who does not know Saint Premanand Maharaj of Vrindavan today? People queue up to listen to his solitary sermons. Meanwhile, a person who saved sex workers from the GB Road red light area of Delhi, reached Maharaj Ji’s Shrihit Radha Keli Kunj Ashram, who not only listened to Maharaj Ji’s solitary discourse but also wanted to know the answer to her question. Premanand Maharaj After hearing the question, he first praised him profusely and described this kind of work as very pious. At the same time he also gave him advice in the form of a Gurumantra.
The woman asked Maharaj ji, ‘I work inside the cells of Delhi’s red light area to rescue trapped women and give new life to their children, but there are many challenges in this work and there is also a belief that I have been given this work. What to do whenever faith decreases and the challenge seems big?
After listening to the question, Premanand Maharaj said, ‘This is a very praiseworthy work. Freeing those whose lives have been thrown into filth, freeing them from dirty practices and giving them a new life is a very praiseworthy task, but self-confidence should not be broken but should be enhanced. If we save even one living being from drowning, we are doing a great work. It is a different thing to do bhajan for oneself and to do good for oneself, but to think about the welfare of others is a special thing. “There is no religion for anyone, brother”. In many circumstances, girls get trapped in this situation. Do this praiseworthy work and chant the name of Radha so that your self-confidence never breaks. You keep fighting. God is in your protection.
Who is Geetanjali Babbar?
Actually, the person whom Premanand Maharaj has advised is a well-known sex worker activist. Her name is Geetanjali Babbar. She is the founder and director of ‘Kat-Katha’, a non-profit organization which is located in Delhi’s largest red light area G.B. They work to empower and liberate sex workers in street brothels. She started helping the sex workers of GB Road at the age of just 22. Also worked with National AIDS Control Organization (NACO).
Regarding her work with NACO, she said in an interview that she had gone there thinking that she would spread awareness about HIV testing and AIDS prevention, as we all believed would help, but she realized that there was a life beyond this work. She said, ‘On my first day in the brothel I could not ask a single question, my body and mind were numb. I saw girls my age, and even younger, trapped in a life they never chose, while we sat outside, oblivious. I went there to be a change maker, but their world changed me. This made me realize that I had to change my perspective towards this business so that I could make a big difference. Even after 14 years, I am changing every day.
