Sangam bath Significance: The famous Magh Mela going on in Prayagraj has reached its final stage. Lakhs of devotees from India and abroad are reaching the Sangam banks and taking holy bath. According to religious beliefs, taking bath and worshiping in Magh Mela gives special virtuous results. This time the sixth and last Mahasnan of the fair will take place on Sunday, 15 February 2026. This bath will be taken on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri and with this, this spiritual fair lasting 44 days will also come to an end.
Sixth Mahasnan will be held on 15th February
According to the calendar and fair administration, the sixth and last main bath of Magh Mela will take place on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Due to this day being the festival of Mahashivratri, its importance has increased manifold. It is believed that by taking a dip in the holy waters of Sangam and anointing Lord Shiva, devotees attain salvation.
Special coincidence on Mahashivratri
According to astrologers, this year many auspicious yogas are being formed on Mahashivratri, which are making this bath even more fruitful. Devotees will take a dip of faith at Triveni Sangam from sunrise itself.
Importance of Mahasnan on Mahashivratri
In Hindu religion, the festival of Mahashivratri is considered a symbol of the divine union of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. On this day, special importance has been given to bathing in holy rivers, worshiping Lord Shiva and observing fast. It is believed that bathing in Triveni Sangam on the day of Mahashivratri destroys a person’s sins and paves the way for attaining salvation.
Why is Magh Mela special?
Magh Mela is organized every year in Prayagraj on the banks of confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and invisible Saraswati. This fair is considered an important part of Sanatan tradition. Devotees observe Kalpavas throughout the month of Magh, take bath, meditate and participate in religious rituals. The presence of sages, saints and akharas further increases the spiritual importance of this fair.
