New Delhi: India seamer Prasidh Krishna says that he has taken complete responsibility for his failure in the Leeds Test against England that cost them the game. Despite dominating, India had a forgettable outing in the series opener at Headingley as they went down against hosts by 5 wickets go 0-1 down in the five-game series.
Krishna, who missed the first training session of the team for the second Test match at Edgbaston along with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, admitted that it was his failure that he could not hit the right lengths but was always trying to make an impact. After the game, Prasidh was slammed by few former players after he leaked more than 200 runs in the series-opener at Leeds.
I take complete responsibility: Prasidh
‘If I look at the first innings, I was a little too short than where I wanted to be, 6-8 is ideal. Second innings it got slightly better, because again, the wicket was slightly slower. I had to pitch a few slightly behind 8, and go slightly fuller, when I am trying to get a wicket. I definitely did not bowl the lengths that I wanted to. It took me some time to get used to the slope on that side. No reasons, but I should be able to do it as a professional. I take complete responsibility about it, and maybe, do it better next time,’ Prasidh said at a press conference ahead of the start of the second Test.
Prasidh registered one of the worst figures by an Indian bowler after bowling 20 overs in an innings and conceding 200 runs at an economy rate of 6.40. The only saving grace for him remained the wickets of Ollie Pope, Harry Brook and Jamie Smith which he claimed despite proving to be expensive and erratic.
While the first innings proved to be worst for Prasidh, the second innings was slightly better as he conceded 92 runs after 15 overs but a worrying economy rate of 6.10. Additionally, he gave some hope to the team by claiming the wickets of Zak Crawley and Pope but the side failed to capitalise on it.
The second Test match between India and England begins on July 2, Wednesday in Edgbaston, Birmingham.
