Postmortem of defeat in RJD: Tejashwi Yadav becomes leader of opposition, know what will be the next plan of opposition

Tejashwi Yadav was elected Leader of Opposition in the RJD meeting held to review the defeat in Bihar elections. The MLAs alleged irregularities in the election and also discussed challenging the results in court.

Three days after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) suffered a crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, the party called an important meeting of the legislature party on Monday to review the defeat and decide the future strategy. In this meeting, Tejashwi Yadav has been unanimously elected Leader of Opposition. In this meeting held at Tejashwi’s official residence (Polo Road) in Patna, both the winning and losing MLAs were called. During this, all senior leaders including party supremo Lalu Prasad, former CM Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti and senior leader Jagadanand were present.

Review of the 4 hour long defeat

In this meeting which lasted for about 4 hours, the defeat in the elections was mainly reviewed. According to party sources, Tejashwi Yadav took feedback from each candidate to understand what went wrong at the ground level. In the meeting, possible reasons behind the election defeat were discussed in detail like local dissatisfaction, weakness in organizational politics, lack of booth management and inability to properly convey election issues to the public. RJD MLA Ramanuj Yadav said that there was a man-to-man talk in the meeting, the defeat was reviewed and Tejashwi Yadav was elected Leader of Opposition.

RJD MLAs made allegations of irregularities

In the meeting, many MLAs made serious allegations of irregularities regarding the election results. MLA Alok Mehta said, “There have been irregularities in the elections, that is why this kind of result has come.”

RJD MLA Bogo Singh, who won from Matihani, raised questions on being given ₹10,000 each during the elections and said, “NDA’s ground had slipped. They have bought the votes of Jeevika Didis.”

Discussion on going to court

According to party sources, there was also a serious discussion in the meeting on challenging the results of defeat in court. RJD leaders emphasized that the opinion of other allies of the Grand Alliance will also be taken regarding the results so that the future strategy can be jointly decided. After Tejashwi Yadav was elected Leader of Opposition, RJD has now started preparations to corner the new government both on the streets and in the House.
