benA youth living in Galuru has complained that his housing society has imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 for girls staying in his flat. A Reddit user living in Bengaluru wrote that his residential society has fined him and his flatmate Rs 5,000 for having “girls’ night out”. He wrote this on Reddit while sharing a screenshot of the invoice sent by the society. He also asked whether any legal action could be taken against the society.

Penalty for being a bachelor

He alleged that his housing society has made a rule under which bachelors cannot host guests at their house at night. At the same time, she also told in her post that there is no such rule on families and they can host as many guests as they want. In the invoice issued on November 1, the society fined the youth and his flatmate Rs 5,000 for keeping the girls in their flat overnight.

He also specifically mentioned the date and number of the girls’ stay in the note. It is clearly written in the invoice that on the night of 31 October, two girls had stayed there the whole night. The young man wrote that they were treating the girls’ stay at the house as if it was a violation of the law, and he was not even given any warning. He asked in the post if he could do something about this matter so that the housing society would think again about this poor behaviour.

One user wrote in response that such rules have no legal validity and this is happening because the society is considering itself an Oyo hotel. Some people wrote that the Society cannot impose such a rule, but facing it legally would be a waste of both time and money. Some others advised him to change his house and choose a better place. At the same time, some people also demanded to reveal the name of the society, so that it can be isolated in the society and other unmarried people can be warned before staying there.
