Launched in 2020, the second-generation Mahindra Thar (3-door) has always been admired for its rugged styling, commanding road presence, off-road capabilities and refined engines. The SUV crossed the one lakh sales milestone within nearly two years of its launch, followed by 2 lakh units by October 2024 and over 3 lakh units in September 2025.
Aiming to further boost its sales, Mahindra & Mahindra is set to give the Thar a significant midlife update in October, 2026. The updated model is currently undergoing extensive testing and has been spotted multiple times, revealing several design and interior details. Here’re all the key details we know about the upcoming 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift.
Thar Roxx-Inspired Styling
Spy images suggest that the new Thar will borrow several design elements from the Thar Roxx. The front fascia will be heavily revised with redesigned LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, a tweaked bumper and a revised grille. One of the test mules was spied with the newly-designed five-spoke alloy wheels, which are likely to make it to the production-spec model.
More Features
Significant updates will be made inside the cabin. The new 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is likely to be offered with a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control and a 360-degree camera.
Most of the existing features are expected to be carried over, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 6-speaker sound system, cruise control, electronically adjustable ORVMs, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability program, rear parking sensors and more.
Engines, Gearboxes & Drivetrains
Mechanically, the new 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to remain unchanged. The off-road lifestyle SUV will continue with the 119bhp, 1.5-litre diesel, 132bhp, 2.2-litre diesel and 152bhp, 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine options.
A 6-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard, while a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission will be available exclusively with the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines. Both AWD and RWD systems will also continue to be offered.
Expected Pricing
The pre-facelift Thar 3-door is available in the price range of Rs 10.32 lakh – Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated SUV lineup is likely to command a slightly premium over the current one.
