Michal Probierz resigned from the post of Poland’s head coach on June 12, days following his disagreement with star player . Earlier this week, Probierz removed Lewandowski from the role of Poland’s skipper and appointed midfielder Piotr Zieliński as new leader of the national side before the FIFA World Cup Qualifier game against Finland.
Following this, Lewandowski expressed his ire and said he won’t play for Poland until Probierz will coach the side. Poland went on to register a 2-1 loss against Finland at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium. With this defeat, Poland’s qualification hopes are now in peril.
On June 12, the Polish Football Association dropped a post on X, which revealed Probierz resignation from the top post. ‘I have come to the conclusion that in the current situation, the best decision for the good of the national team will be my resignation from the position of coach. Performing this function was the fulfillment of my professional dreams and the greatest honor of my life,’ remarked Probierz in a statement issued by the Polish Football Association. Probierz started his stint with Poland in September 2023, after the miserable tenure of Fernando Santos.
