New Delhi: In a significant development in the murder case of renowned singer Zubeen Garg, his bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami had alleged that the singer’s bandmate Siddharth Sharma and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta poisoned him to death. Goswami claimed that the two chose Singapore as an apt choice to orchestrate the murder plan.
Goswami alleged that Sharma’s behavior throughout the trip was suspicious. Last week, the police arrested Sharma on the allegations of criminal conspiracy, murder, and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Shocking revelations by Goswami
During the trip, Goswami claimed that he noticed some unusual in Sharma’s behaviour. In the yacht, the manager forcibly took control of the yacht from the sailor, endangering the lives of all passengers. He then claimed that he asked the Assam Association (Singapore) member and NRI Tanmoy Phukan not to arrange any drinks, and took the responsibility by himself.
Moreover, when Garg was gasping and was facing difficulty in breathing, Sharma ignored it. The bandmate stressed that it is nearly impossible for Garg to die in the waters, highlighting the fact that he was a good swimmer. Garg had also coached both Goswami and Sharma, and therefore, could not have died due to drowning.
Goswami said that when Garg was frothing from the mouth and nose, Sharma dismissed it as ‘acid reflux’ and assured others there was nothing to worry about. Instead of arranging immediate medical help, Goswami said, Sharma’s actions facilitated Garg’s ‘early demise.’
According to Goswami, Sharma and Mahanta together had poisoned the singer and had deliberately chosen Singapore as the venue to hide their conspiracy. Goswami also claimed Sharma instructed him not to share any of the yacht videos with anyone.
Investigations underway
When the police interrogated Sharma and Mohanta, they both denied all the accusations. Material evidence, including documentary records, financial transactions, and witness statements, all direct towards Sharma’s involvement in the crime.
Meanwhile, the ED is expected to join the investigation soon to examine the organised financial crimes and acquisition of unidentified properties by Mahanta.
