Prime Minister Modi has announced financial assistance of Rs 1600 crore for flood -affected Punjab. This amount will be an additional Rs 12,000 crore allocated to the state.
Punjab flood: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the flood affected Punjab on Tuesday. He saw the flood situation by doing air survey. The PM announced financial assistance of Rs 1600 crore for Punjab. This is in addition to 12000 crores allocated to the state. The second installment of SDRF and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi will be released in advance.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi emphasized the need for a multi-dimensional approach to help Punjab and the people here to get rid of flood damage. This will include measures such as the PM Awas Yojana, rebuilding homes, restoration of national highways, reconstruction of schools, providing relief through PMNRF and distributing mini kits for livestock.
Farmers will get additional assistance
Farmers who do not have electricity connections will be given additional assistance. Assistance will be provided under the National Agricultural Development Scheme for renewal of borewells which have been filled or swept away. For diesel -powered bore pumps, solar panels will be coordinated with Mnre and assistance for micro irrigation under the ‘every drop more crop’ guidelines.
Help will be given from Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Rural, financial assistance will be provided by the Punjab government for reconstruction of homes of eligible families in rural areas under the special project, whose houses have been damaged by floods. Government schools damaged in the recently damaged floods in Punjab will get financial assistance under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The state government will have to provide all the necessary support information as per the guidelines.

Under the Water Section Public Participation Program, recharge structures for water harvesting in Punjab will be constructed extensively. The project will be focused on repairing damaged recharge structures and construction of additional water harvesting structures. These efforts will increase rainwater harvesting and ensure long -term water stability. The Central Government has also sent inter-ministers to visit Punjab to assess the loss, and further assistance will be considered, based on their detailed report.
