Coimbatore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Coimbatore on Wednesday afternoon on a significant one-day visit, marking his first trip to Tamil Nadu after the BJP-led NDA’s victory in the Bihar assembly elections. The Prime Minister’s agenda includes inaugurating the South India Natural Farming Summit and releasing a major installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, all under the keen gaze of the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 assembly polls.

A Political Welcome: Chants of “Today Bihar, Tomorrow Tamil Nadu”

PM Modi’s arrival at the Coimbatore airport was met with a fervent welcome from BJP workers, signalling the party’s intensified focus on the southern state. As his convoy moved, enthusiastic supporters showered his car with flowers and raised slogans, most notably chanting “Today Bihar.. Tomorrow Tamil Nadu,” encapsulating the BJP’s electoral ambitions. The visit is strategically crucial as it is the Prime Minister’s first to Tamil Nadu after the BJP formally joined the AIADMK-led alliance.

The Prime Minister was received at the airport by a cross-section of political leaders, demonstrating the breadth of the emerging NDA coalition in the state. The welcoming party included Governor R.N. Ravi, Union Minister of State L. Murugan, and Coimbatore Collector. Crucially, he was also welcomed by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, along with leaders from alliance partners like the Tamil Maanila Congress (G.K. Vasan) and the New Justice Party (A.C. Shanmugam). Senior BJP state leaders, including President K. Annamalai, were also present.

The central purpose of the PM’s visit is to inaugurate the South India Natural Farming Summit at the Coddissia Ground. Alongside this, in a major announcement for the nation’s farmers, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to release the 21st installment of the PM-KISAN scheme. The installment, amounting to over ₹18,000 crore, is poised to benefit more than 9 crore farmers across the country, providing direct financial support to the agricultural community. The visit is also expected to feature closed-door discussions with alliance partners to strategize for the upcoming electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
