New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his 93rd birthday. He recalled his contribution to the country in public life.

Modi wrote, “Tribute to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh ji on his birthday. We remember his contribution to our country during his long years in public life.”
Born on 26 September 1932, Manmohan Singh was a well-known economist and worked as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985. Between 1991 and 1996, Singh acted as the Finance Minister of India, during which he played an important role in implementing comprehensive economic reforms, which gave him recognition worldwide. He was the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. For many people, his name is synonymous with the major changes of that era. His government launched a historic initiative in 2005, such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), and the Right to Information Act (RTI), which greatly improved transparency between the government and the public.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to the former PM. He described Manmohan Singh as a person of humility and knowledge, who always remained with “calm dignity”.
On X, Kharge called Singh “a humble architect of India’s economic change”. He said that Manmohan Singh allowed his work to speak more than his words and his economic reforms not only opened the doors of opportunities for the country, but also formed a rich middle class and took out countless families out of poverty.
