New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met the Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka, in New Delhi. Rabuka is on his first three-day official visit to India. He will also meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The Fijian Prime Minister arrived in India on Sunday with his wife, Sulueti Rabuka and a high-level delegation which comprises Health and Medical Services Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu and senior government officials.
Rabuka will also address the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). His lecture titled “Ocean of Peace” would focus on regional stability, India-Pacific ties, and the significance of maritime cooperation.
In August 2024, President Droupadi Murmu officially visited Fiji, where she addressed the Fijian Parliament. The President highlighted “close ties” and “shared values” between the two countries. Rabuka’s visit can be seen as an important step towards strengthening diplomatic ties between India and Fiji.
MEA Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra and Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Raijeli Taga will lead the bilateral talks. The talks will focus on cooperation in areas including health, agriculture, education, trade and investment, capacity building, cultural exchanges, climate change and renewable energy.
