PM Modi Birthday: The Prime Minister did not limit patriotism only to national festivals, but made everyday part. From the Gujarat model to National Unity Day, Partition Vibhishika Smriti and ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ became the power to add India.
When heavy-armed Pakistani terrorists attacked in Pahalgam and killed 26 innocent citizens, India’s response showed its democratic fabric strengthening. From the snowy peaks of Kashmir to the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, the whole country was united to demand mourning and demand for justice.
After this, the military action in Pakistan was not only the operation, but became a moment of national purification. In these moments, all the walls of language, region and culture were broken and everyone showed shared resolution. But seven months later, when India won the T20 World Cup in Barbados, the same roads that witnessed tears were filled with celebrations. From the Marine Drive in Mumbai to the remote villages, the whole country was celebrated together. It suggests that whether it is sorrow or happiness – shared feelings work to add diverse democracy like India.
PM Modi’s ‘patriotic rituals’ model
This unity did not happen suddenly. This is part of the deep change that Prime Minister Narendra Modi arranged as ‘patriotic rituals’. After being the Chief Minister of Gujarat and later becoming Prime Minister, Modi understood that solidarity in diverse democracy has to be renewed with repeatedly shared experiences.
From Gujarat model to national level
While being the Chief Minister in Gujarat, Modi did many experiments which later became a national program. Since 2002, Republic Day and Independence Day were not limited to the state capital and celebrated in the districts. With this, the common people felt that Delhi is not only far away, but also a glimpse of the country in their own area. The ‘Gaurav Day’ initiative began in 2003, which associated the national festivals with the dignity of the general public.
The ‘Statue of Unity’, made in 2018, is an extreme form of this thinking. In the construction of 182 meter high statue of Sardar Patel, farmers across the country donated agricultural tools from 1,69,000 villages. It was not just a statue, but became a symbol of the participation of the entire country.

PM Modi’s national unity initiatives
After becoming Prime Minister, Modi increased these experiments at the national level-
- ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ (2015): States and union territories were added for mutual cultural exchange.
- National Unity Day (2014): On the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, the ‘Run for Unity’ is organized every year, in which millions of people participate at the same time.
- Bharat Parv (2016): Republic Day celebrations were brought to common citizens.
- Partition Vibhisika Memorial Day (14 August): Mass pain was shared by remembering the tragedy of 1947.
- Constitution Hurry Day: Remembering the emergency of 1975 Emergency, the importance of democracy was described.
- These events made patriotism democratic and participated. Now people became not only the audience, but an active partner.
‘Federal Glue’ means strength
All these initiatives act as glue in the federal structure of India-
- Temporal Synchronization: Millions of people take part in patriotic rituals simultaneously, forming shared emotions. His government did not limit patriotism to only a few big occasions, but made it a part of everyday life. This is the ‘Everyday Nationalism’, which has become the biggest basis for keeping complex democracy like India in one thread.
