New Delhi: Sony packed February’s State of Play with wall-to-wall announcements, surprise reveals, and long-awaited updates. The showcase ran for over an hour and featured first-party blockbusters, bold third-party projects, remasters, and major DLC drops. From legendary franchises making a comeback to brand-new IPs, the event delivered something for nearly every PlayStation 5 fan.
The biggest shock came at the end. Santa Monica Studio confirmed a remake of the original Greek saga and dropped a brand-new 2D spin-off — available immediately. Beyond that, players got fresh looks at shooters, RPGs, fighting games, horror titles, and major PlayStation Plus additions.
God of War returns in a big way
Santa Monica Studio confirmed a remake of the original God of War Greek trilogy is in early development. The studio also launched God of War: Sons of Sparta, a 2D action platformer, on PS5 during the show itself. The surprise release instantly became one of the event’s biggest talking points.
Blockbuster sequels and franchise revivals
Several major franchises made strong appearances.
- Death Stranding 2: On the Beach heads to PC on March 19, with new features also arriving on PS5 via update.
- Marathon launches March 5, with a Server Slam set for February 26.
- Resident Evil Requiem arrives February 27 with a tense new launch trailer.
- Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 launches August 27, bundling fan-favorite titles.
- Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered drops March 3 with upgraded visuals and bonus content.
Konami also revealed Silent Hill: Townfall, shifting to a first-person perspective with a retro CRT device as a key gameplay tool.
Superheroes, Spies and Assassins
Action fans were treated to multiple cinematic reveals.
007 First Light showcased IO Interactive’s origin story for James Bond. The trailer highlighted missions in Iceland and Bond’s recruitment into MI6’s revived 00 program.
A new John Wick game is in development at Saber Interactive, promising signature gun-fu combat and cinematic action.
Meanwhile, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches August 6 on PS5 and PC, adding Magik, Wolverine and Danger to its roster.
Fresh RPGs and Original Worlds
RPG fans have plenty to look forward to.
- Beast of Reincarnation launches August 4 with a one-person, one-dog combat system set in futuristic Japan.
- Project Windless explores a dark fantasy world inspired by Korean literature.
- Rev.Noir introduces a deadly “lightfall” phenomenon in a new JRPG from Konami.
- Pragmata returns with a deeper look ahead of its April 24 launch.
Ember Lab also revealed Kena: Scars of Kosmora, expanding the beloved universe with new elemental combat mechanics.
Fighting games and multiplayer mayhem
Dead or Alive 6 Last Round hits PS5 on June 25 in both standard and free-to-play editions. Team Ninja also teased a brand-new entry in the series.
Ghost of Yōtei Legends launches March 10 as a free multiplayer update, adding co-op missions and future raid content.
Four-player action also arrives with Yakoh Shinobi Ops and co-op shooter 4: Loop, both focusing on teamwork and replayability.
Classic comebacks and anniversary editions
Retro fans had plenty to celebrate.
Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition launched digitally on PS5 February 13. It includes multiple versions of the original game, bonus levels, and documentary content.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse revives the legendary 2D action series with a new art style and expanded mechanics.
Strategy classic Brigandine Abyss also returns with updated systems for modern players.
PlayStation plus expands its lineup
Sony confirmed several additions to PlayStation Plus. Big Walk launches day one into Monthly Games later this year. Premium members will also receive classics like Tekken Dark Resurrection and Time Crisis.
February’s Game Catalog includes Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, Neva, and Season: A Letter to the Future.
