GiveAlmost every other man is struggling with some disease. To get rid of this, people resort to medicines, so that the disease can end and the pain can be reduced. However, there has been a big disclosure about these medicines.
According to this, pharmaceutical companies are playing with your life. Information was given by the central government about the standard quality in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. It was found that 3104 medicines have been found to be poor.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that samples of 1,16,323 drugs were done between April 2024 to March 2025. Of these, 3104 medicines have not been found to be correct in standard quality. That is, these medicines are not worth taking. While there were 245 medicines that were fake. The Union Health Ministry said that 961 cases have been registered for making fake and adulterated medicines during this entire timeline.
Nadda said that between April 2023 to March 2024, 1,06,150 drugs were tested, out of which 2,988 drugs were not found in standard quality, while 282 were found to be fake. He informed that 604 cases were conducted for the manufacture, sale and distribution of fake/adulterated medicines during the same period.
Action will be taken under Drugs and Cosmetic Act
Testing was done across the country in the year 2014-16 to check the quality of medicines and find fake medicines. During this time 47,012 drugs were tested. Drugs and cosmetic act is a crime to make fake or adulterated medicines. If found doing so, the license can be canceled. The Health Minister said that sporadic complaints received about such medicines are investigated in collaboration with the concerned licensing authorities so that action can be taken.
All the stocks in the market have to be called back with immediate ban on the sale of drugs whose results are not found favorable from the drug testing lab under CDSCO. Along with this, orders can also be given to prevent licensing and stop production on the basis of testing results.
Drug industry strengthening scheme will be applicable
The government is also implementing the drug industry strengthening (SPI) scheme in the country. There are three components/sub-schemes of this scheme. The first component is assistance to pharmaceutical industry for general features (APICF), which involves strengthening existing infrastructure facilities by providing financial assistance to pharmaceutical clusters for the manufacture of general features. Swathya Minister Nadda said that the scheme aims to upgrade existing state laboratories, create a new drug testing lab and upgrade the existing state drug control office across the country.
Under the SSDRS scheme, a total of Rs 756 crore has been released as central contribution to states and union territories so far. In various states and union territories, 17 new drug testing labs have been constructed and 24 existing laboratories have been upgraded.
