Haste increased suspicion, crowd got angry after seeing plastic effigy

According to the information, four youths reached the ghat in a Haryana number i20 car. He told that he had come to perform the last rites of a dead body, but he did not complete even one of the traditional rituals performed at the Ganga Ghat. As soon as the pyre was ready, they quickly placed the so-called dead body wrapped in cloth there.

This haste became a cause of suspicion among the local people. When some people removed the sheet and saw, everyone was stunned. Inside was a sealed plastic mannequin, which was designed exactly like a dead body. People immediately caught two youths and informed the police. Initial suspicion was on insurance fraud or an attempt to fake someone’s death.

Layers of Rs 50 lakh insurance scam exposed, accused confesses

According to Circle Officer Garh, Stuti Singh, during interrogation, accused Kamal Soni and his partner Ashish Khurana made a big revelation. Kamal, a resident of Palam, Delhi, had a loan of more than Rs 50 lakh. To avoid this, a year ago, using the Aadhaar and PAN card of his former employee Anshul Kumar, he purchased an insurance policy worth Rs 50 lakh in his name.

He also paid the premium regularly. The plan was to burn the plastic effigy like a dead body and get a fake death certificate made and then take a claim of Rs 50 lakh from the insurance company. If the effigy had not been found, this scam could have been successful.

When ‘dead man’ was found alive

To confirm the reality of the incident, the police contacted Anshul, who informed from his home in Prayagraj that he is completely healthy. He told that he had no knowledge about any policy. Police have arrested both the accused. The car has been seized and the search is on for two other absconding youths.
