Mumbai: Khatu Shyam Mandir, located in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, is one of India’s most revered pilgrimage destinations dedicated to Baba Khatu Shyam—also known as Barbarik, the valiant grandson of Bhima. According to the Mahabharata, Barbarik sacrificed his head to Lord Krishna before the great war, and today, he is worshipped with deep devotion across the country. Every day, thousands of devotees visit the temple seeking Baba’s blessings.
However, if you’re planning a trip to Khatu Shyam Mandir anytime soon, there’s an important update you must be aware of. The temple committee has officially revised the darshan timings, bringing significant changes to the temple schedule, especially on Saturdays. Pilgrims are advised to take note of the new timings to avoid any inconvenience.
Darshan Timing Changed for Khatu Shyam Baba on Saturdays
The Shri Shyam Mandir Committee has announced a new schedule for darshan at the world-renowned Khatu Shyam Mandir. Starting immediately, the temple doors will now close every Saturday at 10:00 PM. This marks a major shift from the previous tradition, where the temple remained open 24 hours on Saturdays.
Committee Secretary Manavendra Singh Chauhan stated that the decision was taken to preserve the temple’s long-standing traditions and ensure better management. As per the update, the temple gates will remain closed from Saturday 10:00 PM to Sunday 5:00 AM, during which time no darshan will be allowed.
Why the Change?
Previously, the temple remained open round-the-clock every Saturday, accommodating pilgrims from across India without any time restrictions. However, the new timing aims to provide much-needed rest for temple staff and volunteers. Devotees can resume darshan from Sunday 5:00 AM onwards, following the early morning Mangla Aarti.
Recent Restrictions Also Applied on Other Days
A few months earlier, the temple committee had also issued a notice stating that apart from Saturdays, Sundays, Shukla Paksha Ekadashi, and Dwadashi, the temple would remain closed from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on other days. The purpose is to maintain order and allow time for temple maintenance and staff breaks.
So if you’re planning to visit the temple, especially on a Saturday, it’s essential to follow the new darshan schedule.
