New Delhi: U Mumba defeated Tamil Thalaivas 36-33 in a thrilling contest at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium on August 31, Sunday. Mumba handed Thalaivas their first loss of the season. The Mumba’s raiders performed brilliantly in the final minutes to help their team make a comeback against Thalaivas.
Mumba were trailing by nine points at one point, but Ajit’s back-to-back successful raids shifted the momentum to his side. The game was well-poised at the end of the first half as Thalaivas were leading the match by three points.
Arjun Deshwal was the star performer in the first half, securing seven points to give his team a lead at the time of the break. Post first-half Thalaivas pushed the first all-out of the match and extended their lead in the match. Deshwal completed his Super 10, and skipper Pawan Sehrawat’s multi-point raid put his team ahead of Mumba with nine points.
Hard-fought fightback in second half
Mumba put on a remarkable fightback after the break in the second half, with their raiders Ajit and Anil taking the charge on the mat. Both raiders cut down the lead to just two points in the last five minutes. They also forced an all-out on Thalaivas in the final minutes of the game to turn the match in their favour.
Pawan made an unforced error in the second last raid, which helped Mumba to seal the game 36-33. It was the proper team effort from Mumba’s side as all their players contributed to the win.
Mumba also climbed to the top position in the points table by winning their both matches. While Thalaivas are in fourth position, after winning one game out of the two in the PKL 12.
