PKL 12: U Mumba thrash Gujarat Giants 6-5 in season’s second tie-breaker

New Delhi: The Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium witnessed another tie-breaker game between U Mumba and Gujarat Giants on August 30, Saturday. Mumba beat Gujarat 6-5 in the second tie-breaker match of the season. The game ended with 29-29 at the regulation time. The tie-breakers in the league stage have fueled the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season 12 in the starting phase.

Gujarat’s Harish Kamchi started the proceedings of the tie-breaker by giving his one-point lead, but Ajit Chauhan scored two points in the next raid to put Mumba ahead after the first raid of both teams in the five-raid shootout. Rakesh levelled the score for his side, but Zafar again gave the lead to Mumba.

Himanshu Singh made the score 3-3, but Anil counted his point and again gave the lead to Mumba of 4-3. In the next raid, Himashu Jaglan failed to score a point, and the lead extended to 5-3 for Mumba. In the next raid, Rohit was caught by the Gujarat defender to make the score 5-4, and then skipper Mohammedreza Shadloui went for the last raid to score two points to give his team a chance in the last raid of Mumba, but in the process of scoring two points, he was caught by Mumba’s defenders and lost the game for his side.

29-29 after the end of regulation time

Earlier in the match, both teams were cautious, and the score was just 3-3 by the end of four minutes of the game. Gujarat were looking better in the first five minutes compared to Mumba, but after 10 minutes of the game, Mumba were leading 7-6.

After the first break, Gujarat imposed the first all-out on Mumba to put them on a lead of 12-10. Gujarat’s raider Himanshu took out Sunil and Parvesh and put his side ahead of Mumba with a 14-11 lead. Mumba made a small comeback later in the first half and ended the first half by trailing just a point to Gujarat.

Mumba levelled the score to 16-16 after the half-time, and no team was looking to take a risk in the second half. Gujarat were having the lead at regular time, but Mumba’s also trying to close out the lead in the following raids. Gujarat were pushing Mumba to another all-out, but Mumba fought back and made two super tackles to close out the lead to just two points.

Mumba took the lead by three points in the last minutes of the game, but Gujarat made a super tackle and a super raid to level the score again at 27-27. A final-minute super tackle gave Mumba a one-point lead, but Shadloui scored a point in the last raid, pushing the match to the second tie-breaker of the season.
