Piyush Goyal attacks Rahul Gandhi for criticism of India-US trade deal, calls narrative ‘fake, stage-managed’

New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal has sharply criticised Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, for allegedly spreading fake narratives regarding the India-US trade deal. He accused the Congress leader of pushing a stage-managed narrative, and misleading Indian farmers.

Goyal further said that the statements made by Gandhi, with regards to the India-US trade deal, were “artificial” and “baseless.”

‘Fake claims aimed at confusing farmers’: Goyal

The Union Minister termed Gandhi’s claim “fake” and “fabricated”. He said that such claims were being made only to confuse the hard working farmers, whom he termed annadata. He said that the Opposition leader was trying to provoke the people against the government’s economic policies.

In a more than 4-minute long video posted on his social media handle, Goyal said, “Rahul Gandhi has once again rolled out a stage-managed, most artificial and fake narrative. This time, he is shooting from the shoulders of a few Congress party activists, who are pretending to be farmer leaders – in a completely artificial and baseless conversation. Let me now do a reality check on Rahul ji’s fakery and expose him and his friends for misguiding our innocent, hardworking annadatas, whose interests have been fully protected by the Modi government in the India-US trade deal.”

He added that the interests of all farmers had been “fully protected” under this trade deal. He said that the deal would also be beneficial for MSMEs, fishermen, startups and the youth of the country.

He said that when he claimed that the interests of all groups were fully protected, he was saying it with full responsibility. He said that this agreement would help farmers, fishermen and the youth of the country. Addressing Gandhi, he said that the Congress leader was “totally exposed”, calling him a drama artist and relentless peddler of fake allegations and fabricated stories.

Rahul Gandhi’s statement on India-US trade deal

The attack by Goyal, came after Rahul Gandhi questioned the recently concluded trade deal between India and US. He said that this interim India-US trade deal posed a direct threat to the livelihoods of farmers in the country.

Accusing the PM of having betrayed the farmers, Gandhi in a post on ‘X’ said, “Narendra ‘surrender’ Modi has betrayed the Indian farmers and the farmers have now understood this. This is not just a trade deal, but is a direct attack on our farmers. The concern of farmers was clearly visible in the meeting of farmers’ union today in Parliament. Farmers, who are already struggling with inflation, rising costs and uncertainty over MSP, are now being left unprepared in front of foreign crops equipped with huge subsidies and mechanical power.”

The Opposition leader termed the fight as lopsided and said that the government was creating one-sided pressure on the farmers of the country. He added that the farmers’ consent was needed before any decision is made regarding them. He promised that he and his party would continue to fight for the rights of the farmers of the country.
