Pitru paksha 2025: According to the Puranas and Hindu scriptures, one day of the ancestral world is equal to one year of the earth. This is a way to understand the concept of time, where the speed of time in different worlds is considered different. In the scriptures, Pitra Lok is considered to be a place where souls live for some time after death, especially those souls who are unable to attain salvation. These texts not only describe Pitra Lok but also mention in detail the time time here. According to Garuda Purana and scriptures, time calculations are different for gods, humans and ancestors. According to the almanac, Pitra Paksha is going to start from 7 September in the year 2025. At the same time, it will be concluded on all Pitra Amavasya i.e. on 21 September 2025.
According to Garuda Purana
- 360 days of humans are equal to a day of the gods.
- The 30 days of humans are equal to one day of ancestors.
According to this calculation, one month of Pitra Lok is equal to 30 years of the earth and one year of Pitra Lok is equal to 360 years of the earth.
Relation of Pitrilok and Yamraj
Yamraj is also called Dharmaraja. He is the ruler of Pitriloka. It is the work of Yamraj to give them the path of heaven, hell or rebirth by justice of souls after death. It has been said in the scriptures that the soul comes to earth for rebirth from Pitriloka itself.
Importance and Shraddha of Pitra Lok
Pitra Lok is related to Pitra debt, to repay that deeds like Shraddha and Tarpan are performed. According to Hindu beliefs, when we perform Tarpan, Shraddha and Pindadan in Pitrupaksha, it directly reaches the ancestors. This difference of time suggests that the shraddha performed once a year in terms of ancestors causes constant freshness and satisfaction for them. Which brings peace to their soul. It is also believed that during the Pitra Paksha, the doors of Pitru Loka open and Pitra comes to meet his descendants on earth. For this reason, Shraddha and Tarpan have special significance during this period. It is not just a religious ritual, but also a way of expressing respect and gratitude to the ancestors.
