It is believed that during Pitrupaksha, all the ancestors come to the earth and wait for Shraddha and Tarpan. How to do Shraddha on the day of Sarvapitra Amavasya?

Tarpan: First of all, get up in the morning and take a bath and wear clean clothes. After this, offer water to your ancestors by facing south direction, which is called Tarpan.

The offering of libations of water to the gods: Make bodies using flour, barley and sesame. Offer these bodies to your ancestors, it is a symbol of respect and gratitude towards them.

Food to Brahmins: The main part of Shraddha is to feed the Brahmins. On this day, call Brahmins with respect and give food to them and donate them. If this is not possible, then you can take part of the food and give it to a needy.

Crows, dogs, and cow’s food: In Hinduism, crows are considered to be the form of ancestors. Therefore, remove the food of Shraddha for crows, dogs and cows as well. This is also an important ritual.
