Pickleball Gains Ground in Philippines as Federation Pushes Structured Growth

Pickleball continues to expand rapidly in the Philippines, moving from casual recreational play to a more structured, nationwide sport under the guidance of the Philippine Pickleball Federation (PPF).

Recognised by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee, and a founding member of the Global Pickleball Federation, the PPF has introduced key systems to support the sport’s growth. These include the Philippine Pickleball Participant (PPP) Registry, a national database for players, coaches, and officials, and the Official National Ranking System, implemented on January 1, 2026.

“In just a few years, we have seen tremendous organic growth (in Pickleball), and that’s something we celebrate. But now, it’s time to support that enthusiasm with systems that ensure fairness, credibility, and long-term development,” said Shery Anne Cu, president of the PPF to mb.com.

The federation is also working on standardised pathways for tournaments, officiating, and coaching, aiming to bring consistency across all levels of play.

At the grassroots level, Skechers has played a key role in supporting the sport’s rise. The brand has backed multiple events, including the Street Pickleball exhibition at the GPF Global Pickleball Congress in November 2025 and the first Philippine Pickleball National Championship held from May 30 to June 1, 2025. It has also signed players such as Sarah Jane Lim-Narvasa and Leander Lazaro as official pickleball athletes.

Looking ahead, the inaugural Skechers Pickleball 1st Philippine Pickleball Amateur Nationals is scheduled from March 28 to March 30 at Tela Park Pickleball Centre in Las Piñas City. The event will contribute to the official national rankings and is expected to bring together amateur players from across the country under standardized competitive conditions.

“For us, the Nationals mark a turning point for pickleball in the country. It’s inspiring to see Filipinos step onto the court and into a more connected community with Skechers every step of the way,” said Sue Pasustento, Country Manager, Skechers Philippines.

The upcoming Nationals are being positioned as a key milestone in the federation’s long-term development plan, reflecting the sport’s growing structure and reach across the Philippines.
