Philippines ‘Very Happy’ with Indian BrahMos Missiles, Calls Technology ‘Unmatched’

New Delhi: The Philippines has expressed immense satisfaction with the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile systems acquired from India, with Ambassador Josel F.

Ignacio stating Manila is ‘very, very happy’ to be the first export customer for this advanced technology. This acquisition, he emphasized, significantly bolsters the Philippines’ defense capabilities and positions India as a credible source for high-tech defense procurements.

In an exclusive interview, Ambassador Ignacio highlighted that the BrahMos missile system is a major defense purchase for the Philippines, recognizing its advanced and effective technology. While underscoring the nation’s peace-loving nature, he stressed that the missiles serve as a crucial component of ‘credible deterrence’. He noted that the technology offered by BrahMos is currently ‘unmatched’, hinting at potential future purchases as the decision rests with the Philippine defense establishment.

Ignacio also pointed out that the Philippines has been procuring smaller defense equipment like helmets, protective vests, and military trucks from India. The BrahMos deal, however, ‘opens the doors to purchases of more high-technology items,’ solidifying India’s emerging role as a key strategic partner for the Philippines’ future high-tech defense needs. This development comes as New Delhi hosts the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue, focusing on strengthening maritime security.
