Phalguna Amavasya 2026 Date: Amavasya date has special significance in Hindu religion, but Amavasya of Phalgun month is considered very special. According to religious beliefs, on this day there is a tradition of doing special worship and charity to get the peace and blessings of the ancestors. According to the calendar, in the year 2026, Phalgun Amavasya will fall on 17 February. Bathing and offering in the holy river
Taking bath in a holy river like Ganga, Yamuna or Narmada on Phalgun Amavasya is considered very auspicious. After bathing, offer tarpan in the name of your ancestors. Take black sesame seeds, kush and water in your hand and offer water while meditating on your ancestors. This quenches the thirst of the ancestors and they get satisfied and give blessings.
Special importance of charity
It is said in the scriptures that donations made on Amavasya day are directly received by the ancestors. On this day, donate food, black sesame seeds, warm clothes or jaggery to a poor or needy Brahmin as per your capacity. Feeding food to cow, dog and crow on this day is also a surefire way to get rid of Pitra Dosh.
Peepal tree worship and lamp donation
Along with the gods, ancestors are also believed to reside in the Peepal tree. On the day of Phalgun Amavasya, light a mustard oil lamp under the Peepal tree and offer water mixed with raw milk. Circumambulating the tree seven times removes the troubles of the ancestors and averts the troubles of the family.
