PGA Tour and LPGA Tour Events Highlight Texas and Arizona Golf Scene

The PGA Tour begins its two-week Texas swing with the Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course, featuring a prize purse of $9.9 million.

The event runs from Thursday to Sunday, showcasing top players as they vie for a coveted Masters invitation.

Simultaneously, the LPGA Tour holds the Ford Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, where competitors will play for a total prize of $2.25 million. The tournament features nine of the top ten ranked female golfers in the world, excluding only Minjee Lee.

PGA Tour Details

The Houston Open takes place at Memorial Park Golf Course, measuring 7,475 yards with a par of 70. The winner will receive $1,782,000, while the defending champion is Min Woo Lee. Jacob Bridgeman leads the FedEx Cup standings, and last week, Matt Fitzpatrick secured victory at the Valspar Championship.

This week is critical for players aiming to break into the top 50 of the world rankings, which would grant them an invitation to the Masters. Nicolai Hojgaard sits at No. 47, while Pierceson Coody is just outside the cutoff at No. 51. Notably, Scottie Scheffler withdrew from the event due to family commitments.

Brooks Koepka, who designed the Memorial Park course, will participate after achieving three consecutive top-20 finishes following his return from LIV Golf. U.S. Amateur champion Mason Howell will also compete, having received a sponsor exemption.

The field consists of 135 players, with Koepka, Andrew Putnam, and Kris Ventura joining to facilitate threesomes during weekday rounds. Adam Scott needs to maintain his position within the top 60 to qualify for the U.S. Open, the only major he is currently ineligible for this year.

Looking ahead, the next event on the PGA Tour schedule is the Valero Texas Open.

LPGA Tour Highlights

The Ford Championship is hosted at Whirlwind Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona, with a course length of 6,675 yards and a par of 72. The tournament offers a winner’s share of $337,500, with Hyo Joo Kim defending her title after winning the Fortinet Founders Cup last week.

Nelly Korda currently leads the Race to the CME Globe and has achieved both a win and a runner-up finish in her two tournaments this year. The field features nine of the top ten players in the women’s world ranking, with only Minjee Lee absent.

Hyo Joo Kim, following her recent victory, will look to retain her title at the Ford Championship, having moved to No. 4 in the women’s world rankings. Carla Tejedo, who performed well at the Founders Cup, will also compete after earning her spot on the Epson Tour.

South Korea, Australia, and England each have two representatives among the top ten players in the world rankings. Hannah Green enters the tournament with three consecutive victories, including two in her home country of Australia.

The LPGA will continue its schedule with the Aramco Championship next week.
