New Delhi: Perplexity AI has introduced a new AI agent system, Personal Computer, which turns a special-purpose Mac mini into an ever-present digital assistant. The tool is based on the previous Perplexity Computer platform of the company, with an added ability to access files, applications, and sessions on-site. It operates 24/7, making it possible to outsource such tasks as research, writing emails, building reports and automated workflows with minimum input.
The system serves as a digital proxy on behalf of the users that combines cloud-powered AI capabilities with equipped functionality. Perplexity uses heavy reasoning and orchestration on the safe servers, and a lightweight application on the Mac mini does the local interactions. This bi-directional strategy to analogue is intended to bring AI agents closer to everyday jobs, as far as they can be used even when the user is not present.
What is a Perplexity Personal Computer?
A personal computer is a follow-up of the agentic AI tools of Perplexity. It works with a permanently running Mac mini to integrate the local applications and files with the cloud services of Perplexity. The users provide high-level goals, and the AI splits them into actions within the tools and internet.
How it works
The system is commanded by the users through straightforward commands. The AI then processes activities like collecting information on the internet, emailing, generating reports or even alternating applications. It is twenty-four-hour work.
Key features
The tool can use several AI models, such as possibilities like Claude, Gemini, and Grok, working on complex jobs. It combines the use of clouds to process smart reasons and local file access. Security consists of user authorisation of actions of a sensitive nature, a remote kill switch to immediately terminate the agent, and extensive audit records to trace all actions taken.
Another business-orientated version was also said to be introduced by Perplexity called ‘Computer for Enterprise’. It is connected to such tools as Snowflake, Salesforce, and HubSpot. It can be used in teams in data requests, report generation, workflow automation, coding and analysis. The teamwork is facilitated via apps such as Slack.
Availability and pricing
One will need a Perplexity Max subscription that costs $200 monthly to access it. The feature is now Mac-only and has an early user waitlist. Priority is given to Max subscribers, and the ultimate support is given to the first cohort.
