South India had a 58 percent stake.
Southern states dominate the sale of foreign liquor made in India. According to a report by the Industry Body (Ciabc), in 2024-25 the country was 58 percent stake in the total IMFL sales. According to the report, the foreign liquor market of South India is almost completely occupied, while the rest of the country is only 42 percent. However, the sales of foreign whiskey in the entire country have fallen by 1.4 percent, which has now come to 40.17 crore boxes. In the financial year 2023-24 it was 39.62 crore boxes.
The IMFL includes whiskey, vodka, rum, gin and brandy, which are considered different from country liquor and traditional drinks. Ciabc Director General Anant S Iyer said, “The first quarter of the financial year 2024-25 was weak due to the election and the liquor policy of some states, causing the sales to slow down.” He said that they are in constant touch with the state governments and are discussing problems related to excise policy, because every year there are changes in taxes and policies at the state level, which affect sales.
This state is number 1
