PTC News Desk: Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh is currently on his global tour for his album AURA. Ahead of his Sydney concert, he shared behind-the-scenes footage that not only showcased preparations for the show but also revealed the racism he encountered in Australia-where he was mockingly called a “cab driver.”
“I don’t mind being compared to a cab or truck driver. If truck drivers cease to exist, you won’t get bread for your home. I’m not angry, and my love goes out to everyone, even the ones who say things like that about me,” the Punjabi singer added.
On his YouTube channel, Diljit recounted that upon his arrival in Australia, paparazzi photographed him at the airport. When the pictures were published, the comments section was filled with racist jibes. “Some agencies reported my arrival in Australia, and someone sent me the comments people were making-things like, ‘the new Uber driver is here’ or ‘the new 7-11 employee has landed,'” he said. “I’ve seen many such racist remarks, but I believe the world should be united and without borders.”
Despite the negativity, Diljit achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian artist to completely sell out a stadium concert in Sydney, with tickets priced as high as $800. The event drew around 30,000 euphoric fans, celebrating a proud moment for Indian music on the world stage.
On the film front, Diljit will next appear in Anurag Singh’s “Border 2”, which also stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahaan Shetty, Medha Rana, Mona Singh, and Sonam Bajwa in key roles. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, and is presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series in collaboration with JP Dutta’s JP Films.
