Pension for disabled people, reservation 5%, CM Yogi said: Resolution, not body, decides ability.

In the state level program organized in Lucknow on World Disability Day 2025, CM Yogi Adityanath said that physical structure does not determine the ability. The government is taking extensive steps for empowerment of persons with disabilities, pension, reservation and providing assistive devices.

Lucknow. In a state level program organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow on World Disability Day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the physical limitations of a person cannot determine his talent. He said that real power lies in mind, determination and self-confidence. Every person is a creation of God and the society should take the responsibility of connecting the disabled people with the mainstream by giving them respect and support.

Indian sage tradition has always inspired self-confidence.

Citing the example of Rishi Ashtavakra and Saint Surdas, the Chief Minister said that there are many such examples in the world where people with disabilities have made the impossible possible when given the opportunity. He said that the government schemes are creating a strong platform for the disabled people so that they can showcase their capabilities in the society.

Life changes with encouragement, not neglect.

Yogi Adityanath said that neglect in family or society creates frustration in the minds of disabled people, whereas a little support and trust gives them a new direction to move forward in life. He gave examples of UP government officials, a Paralympic medalist is today heading the youth welfare department and the Divisional Commissioner of Chitrakoot is doing excellent work despite being visually impaired.

Government is providing strong socio-economic support

The Chief Minister said that in UP, the disabled pension has been increased from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 and the number of beneficiaries has increased from 8 lakh to more than 11 lakh. Public places are being made barrier-free and 4 percent reservation is applicable in government services and 5 percent in educational institutions.

Wide distribution of technology and modern equipment

He informed that

  • More than 16 lakh UDID cards issued
  • More than 3 lakh 84 thousand artificial devices distributed
  • Rs 6 lakh assistance for cochlear implant
  • Increase in smartphones, tablets, braille materials, skill training
  • Day care center operation in 18 divisions
  • UP is the first state in the country where two universities of higher education for disabled people operate.

The Chief Minister said that the Central and State Governments are committed towards further expanding services and opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Honoring talents on World Disabled Day

In the programme, disabled players, employees, institutions and those doing excellent work were honored with state level awards. While interacting with the disabled students, the Chief Minister also distributed gifts and posed for selfies with them.
